Cleaning Burnt Pots Can Be Simple

If you’ve ever started cooking something in your stainless steel pots and then walked away for forgot about it, you know that cleaning burnt pots can a very laborious task. Although stainless steel is a wonderful material for cooking with, there are times when cleaning becomes really difficult, especially if you have a lot of burnt on food that has blackened. Usually you can scrub the stainless with a stainless steel scrubber but that will create scratches in your pan that will look unsightly. If you find that the food is really hard to get off, the best thing to do is to pour some vinegar into the pot so that it covers all the burnt marks. Boil the vinegar for 10 minutes and then turn off and let it soak for another 15 minutes. When you pour the vinegar out, then you will see that the burnt on food is much easier to clean than before because the vinegar softened the carbon bits of food.

Tips for Care of Japanese Knives

Japanese Kitchen Knives are the best investment a chef can make as far as kitchen equipment goes, take these tips to make sure that they serve you reliably for years to come:

    • Never wash quality kitchen knives in the dishwasher, especially not Japanese knives which are made of high carbon steel blades that will be destroyed when the powerful dishwashing agents break down the carbon in the steel in a vicous chemical reaction that could cost you hundreds if not thousands of dollars in fine cutlery. The dishwasher will also dull and dent and ding your knives by throwing them around to smash into one another. Even German knives are too good to be abused like this. Hand wash your knives with mild soap and dry the knives by hand as well, taking care to not let moisture linger on the blade or handle, as the traditional wooden handles will rot and the blades are very susceptible to corrosion, which can pit the steel at worst and at least be a pain and a hassle in removing rust.
